DERMOT AHERN

Picture
Accredited Mediator. Solicitor. Former Government Minister.

Dermot Ahern has been at the heart of the Irish Government and Europe as a senior Cabinet minister and member of the Irish Parliament for almost a quarter of a century.

He was a key figure in the Irish Peace Process as Minister for Foreign Affairs, and subsequently in Justice which resulted in the historic Good Friday/Belfast agreement and the St Andrews agreement.

Dermot’s experience as a mediator, negotiator and implementer of change was internationally recognized when he was appointed by the then United Nations Secretary General in 2005 as a Special Envoy on his behalf on the contentious issue of UN reform.

In his ministerial career, with extensive experience of EU politics as a member of the European Council of ministers, he was key in the negotiations of EU Treaties, and was a signatory to the Constitutional Treaty and the Lisbon Treaty. He is a lawyer by profession, and is an accredited mediator and now in the role of a private consultant he brings his expertise to seeking resolutions and his discreet counsel has been made available to a range of government and international bodies.
