Four Star Leadership Alumni Receive Scholarships for Community Improvement Challenge

For Immediate Release: June 27, 2019

Three students have been awarded scholarships from Four Star Leadership for their community improvement initiatives. All three students attended Four Star Leadership’s world-class program in July 2018 where they and 66 of their classmates were issued the Understanding Community Understanding challenge by Ret. General Tommy Franks and Joe Crookham, president of Musco Lighting and Four Star sponsor.

At the beginning of the program, all Four Star Leadership students were asked to identify issues in their schools and communities and develop a plan to solve those problems. Students were encouraged to consider social media approaches, team building and collaboration with peers to share ideas.

The first-place winner from The Woodlands, Texas, Gabrielle Henderson, received a $5,000 scholarship for her kindness and charitable awareness community program. Second place and a $2,500 scholarship was awarded to Christine Nguyen of Edmond, Oklahoma, for her state cancer initiative, and third place and a $1,500 scholarship was awarded to Nikolas McNeal of Oregon, Ohio, for his bleeding control student education program.

“We were impressed by all of the students that participated in this challenge,” said retired Gen. Tommy Franks. “Our three scholarship winners went above and beyond with their projects and really made an impact on their communities. We are honored to have them represent our program and to award them with a scholarship to assist in continuing their educations.”
